The $150,000 Makeover
Filed in archive News on October 24, 2008

Sign me up to run for Vice President in 2012!
If you've watched how politics has changed over the years, you'll notice one thing hasn't changed: women politicians - smart, accomplished women - are still picked apart fashion-wise in a way that men politicians aren't. Unfair? Oh yeah. So how do women in politics navigate this tricky arena while still trying to come across as intelligent individuals who are above being shallow and pretentious?
While I'm sure the answer differs depending on who the woman is, I can't imagine that any way to deal with it is to go shopping! Look, I love shopping as much as the next girl. That new shoe smell sends me over the edge. But $150,000?!? In six weeks?
Much has been made of the RNC shelling for Gov. Palin's $150K makeover...and it should be. Look, I'm all for fashionable duds. It does make a difference in how you're perceived. And I know this isn't the first time a politician will be outfitted so extravagantly at someone else's expense. (But that red leather zip-up horror jacket sent Thriller-like chills down my spine.)
I'm just saying - maybe I'll put in a bid for VP in four years' time. I'm wearing last season's shoes, after all.
