Drift from the past: vintage skirt suit

Is it just me or is this suit really magnificent? Considering it was made in late 1940s, one cannot stop and wonder: how were clothes made back then? I can't believe this clothing piece is over 60 years old and still in perfect condition, I don't see any of my today's clothes would last for so long.
